| In the Spring of 1995, a new putter was developed by a materials science engineer who found it difficult to consistently hit the "sweet spot" of his current putter. Being an avid golfer with access to a machine shop and with no pre-drawn sketches, he began to machine a large piece of aluminum until it resembled the shape that he had pictured in his mind, a shape that he had never seen in any putter before.
He then attached a stainless steel face, for weight, and a shaft to the putter head. After testing it on the golf course, he found that the ability to align the club head with the golf ball appeared to be much easier than with his previous putter. Also, the response off the face of this new putter was remarkably pronounced. In November of 1995, the putter was successfully submitted to the USGA to obtain a conformity ruling. Also at this time, the name of the putter, the Daedalus, was developed. One year later the United States Patent Number 5,749,791 was granted to the inventor. With the feedback of both recreational golfers and golf professionals, the Daedalus putter has undergone several minor design changes, each of which has improved the performance of the club. Much research was done to determine which materials to fabricate the putter from. Its current form incorporates the use of #303 investment-cast stainless steel and a gram-weight between that of blade putters and mallet-head putters. This unique putter is the one of choice from the beginner to the avid golfer, or it makes a great gift for any golfer. Suggested retail price is $149.95 plus 12.00 shipping & handling. |
